It borders Guinea-Bissau and Senegal on the north, Mali on the north and north-east, the Côte d'Ivoire on the south-east, Liberia on the south, and Sierra Leone on the west.

Guinea is located on the Atlantic Coast of West Africa and is bordered by Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Mali, Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. The country is divided into four geographic regions: A narrow coastal belt (Lower Guinea); the pastoral Fouta Djallon highlands (Middle Guinea); the northern savanna (Upper Guinea); and a southeastern rain-forest region (Forest Guinea).

Kankan is a town on the River Milo in eastern Guinea. It is the country's third-biggest city with a population of 100,192 in 1996 (census).

The Loma Mountains are the highest mountain range in the West African country of Sierra Leone. The highest peak is Mount Bintumani which rises to a height of 1945m (6400ft).
