セネガル（Senegal）、正式国名：セネガル共和国(République du Sénégal)は、西アフリカ、サハラ砂漠西南端に位置し大西洋に面する国。モーリタニア、マリ、ギニア、ギニアビサウと国境を接し、ガンビアを囲んでいる。
ガンビア共和国（-きょうわこく、Republic of The Gambia)、通称ガンビア(The Gambia)は、アフリカ西岸の国。北大西洋に面したガンビア川の河口を除き、周りをセネガルが取り囲んでいる。
マリ共和国（マリきょうわこく）、通称マリは、西アフリカの内陸国。首都はバマコ。モーリタニア、アルジェリア、ニジェール、ブルキナファソ、コートジボワール、ギニア、セネガルに囲まれている。国土の北側3分の1はサハラ砂漠の一部であり、残りの中南部も、ちょうど中心を流れるニジェール川沿岸だけが農耕地となっている以外は、乾燥地帯である。
ブルキナファソ （Burkina Faso）は、西アフリカの内陸国。旧国名オートボルタ（上ボルタ）。北から時計回りに、マリ、ニジェール、ベナン、トーゴ、ガーナ、コートジボワールと国境を接する。第二次世界大戦後フランスから離れ非同盟路線を歩むが、1987年以降はフランスとの関係を最重視している。台湾と国交あり。
ギニアビサウは、正式名称ギニアビサウ共和国で、アフリカ西部の大西洋に面した国。セネガル、ギニアに接する。首都はビサウ。
モーリタニアは、正式名称モーリタニア・イスラム共和国（Jumhuriya Muritaniya -l-Islamiya）で、アフリカ北西部の国。西サハラ、アルジェリア、マリ、セネガルと国境を接し、大西洋に面する。
