일본()은 아시아 대륙의 동쪽 끝에 자리잡고 있는 섬나라이다. 국토는 홋카이도, 혼슈, 시코쿠, 규슈의 4개 큰 섬을 중심으로 이들 주변에 수천개의 작은 섬이 밀집해 있다. 수도는 도쿄(東京)이다. 면적은 37만 7873㎢이다.
사이타마 시는 사이타마 현 남동부에 있는 현청 소재지이다.
산다 시(三田市, さんだし)는 효고 현의 시이다. 인구는 113,796명이고, 면적은 210.
삿포로 시(札幌市, )는 일본 홋카이도의 도청 소재지이고, 정치, 경제의 중심 도시이다.

나고야 시 (名古屋市)는 아이치 현의 현청 소재지이다. 일본 전국에서 네 번째로 인구가 많은 도시이며, 도쿄 대도시권, 오사카 대도시권에 다음가는 규모를 갖는 대도시권의 중심 도시이다.
교토 시(京都市, )는 교토 부(京都府) 중앙부에 있는 부청 소재지이다. 1956년에 일본에서 처음으로 정령지정도시로 지정되었다.
가와사키 시(川崎市, )는 가나가와 현 북동부에 있는 시이며, 1972년에 정령지정도시로 지정되었다. 현청 소재지가 아닌 정령지정도시는 기타큐슈 시 다음에 두번째였다.
요코하마 시 (横濱市, )는 일본 가나가와 현 동부에 있는 현청 소재지이다.
오사카 시(, ) 는 오사카 부의 부청 소재지이다.
도쿄 도(, )는 일본의 수도이다. 인구는 약 1000만 명이다.
우에다 시(上田市)는 나가노 현 동부에 있는 시이다. 나가노 현에서는 나가노 시, 마쓰모토 시에 이어 3번째로 인구가 많은 도시이며 센고쿠 시대부터 도신 지방의 중심 도시로서 번영해 왔다.
